RNST-(REPETITIVE  NERVE  STIMULATION)

The repetitive nerve stimulation  (RNS) test is fundamentally an electrophysiological study for the differential diagnosis of neuromuscular junction (NMJ) disorders, although there is a considerable limitation in its diagnostic sensitivity and specificity.

How TO  Do Repetitive Nerve Stimulation Test?

This method records the CMAP with a surface electrode from the ADQ muscle, with the stimulating electrodes at the ulnar nerve at the wrist. The nerve is stimulated at the rate of 3 Hz according to the testing program. Some laboratories use the high rate of stimulation to rule out the presence of LEMS.

Why RNS test is done?

The repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) test is fundamentally an electrophysiologic study for the differential diagnosis of neuromuscular junction (NMJ) disorders, although there are considerable limitations in its diagnostic sensitivity and specificity.
