BERA-(BRAINSTEM EVOKED RESPONSE AUDIOMETRY)

Objectives: The brainstem evoked response audiometry (BERA) is an objective neurophysiological method for the evaluation of the hearing threshold and diagnosing retrocochlear lesions. The aim of the study was to investigate the hearing level in children with suspected hearing loss or pathological speech development.

WHAT IS BERA?

Brainstem-evoked response audiometry (BERA) is a simple, non-invasive, objective test for early identification of hearing impairment in children and neonates. It can be used as a screening test and is useful in newborns, infants, and other difficult-to-test patients.

WHY BERA TEST IS IMPORTANT

Brainstem-evoked response audiometry (BERA) is a simple, non-invasive, objective test for early identification of hearing impairment in children and neonates. It can be used as a screening test and is useful in newborns, infants, and other difficult-to-test patients.

WHAT IS BERA TEST?

Electrodes will be placed on the patient's head and behind the ear during the BERA test procedure. When the examination is done, the patient will be heard various sounds through headphones. This examination measures changes in brain electrical activity (EEG) in the provision of acoustic stimuli.

HOW LONG DOES THE BERA TEST TAKE?

How long does a Bera test take? The test itself takes about 1 hour to 11/2 hours, but the entire appointment will take about 2 hours without anesthesia and up to 4 hours if your child needs anesthesia, due to the recovery time.
